Over the course of the last few years, the Midwest’s top promotion, Midwest Cage Championship has scoured the heartland for the top up and coming talent. On a couple occasions, the talent seeks out the promotion. MCC Trials is a chance for mixed martial artists to put their talents on display as they lobby for a spot on the MCC roster and an opportunity to fight in upcoming events. MCC Co-owner, John Halverson stated, “We’ve discovered fighters like Cole Jennet, Josh Atwell, Miguel Rios, and the list goes on and on. The Trials events are getting big. We have fighters contacting us all the time wanting to fight. This is sort of like an interview. You come in, put on a good show- show you have what it takes, and you have the job”

The next event, MCC Trials III is scheduled for Friday, October 9 at Uncle Bucks Kick Ass Party Bar. Tickets are only available the day of show. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bout will start at 7:30 p.m. For more information about this event and upcoming shows, visit www.MidwestCageChampionship.com. Mixed martial artists who are looking to compete are encouraged to call Ryan Hass at 515-229-8566 or e-mail at Ryan@MidwestCageChampionship.com.

Despite moving venue locations on three days notice, MCC Trials II proved to be a success. With over 1,000 fight fans through the door, some of the 22 fighters delivered performances worthy of receiving their invitation to compete at MCC 22 “Reality Check” on September 5 at Veterans Auditorium. MCC co-owner and matchmaker, Ryan Hass commented, “I was a little worried about moving the show, but I knew that the fighters I booked were going to impress the fans no matter how many show up.” He added, “We’re taking some of the top amateur fighters from the Midwest and giving them a chance to really showcase their skills as they fight their way into MCC.”

One of last nights standout performances included a huge win for Zak Laird, submitting undefeated wrestling champion, Jordan Webb in the first round. “You’ve got an 18 year old kick boxer taking a state wrestler down, switching from a gogoplata, to an arm bar, to a triangle choke. These are high level jiu jitsu transitions, and this guy’s pulling them off,” stated MCC co-owner, John Halverson. He followed with, “Zak Laird is the real deal. He’s the next generation of MCC, and he’s definately fighting for us for a long time.”

Some of the other fighters who will be competing in MCC include Laramie Shaffer, Nick Rouse, RJ Harris, and winners of fight of the night, Josh Troen and Nate “Teddy Bear” Williams have already agreed to a rematch at MCC 22.

MCC’s next event, MCC 22 “Reality Check” is scheduled for September 5 at Veterans Auditorium. The main event will feature MCC Interim Lightweight Champion, Joe “The Hammer” Brammer as he puts his title on the line against former MCC Featherweight Champion and WEC veteran, Chris “Mad Dog” Mickle.
Midwest Cage Championship Trials II was scheduled to be held this Friday night in the historic Court Avenue district. However, due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the unrelated events that occurred in the area last weekend, the show has been moved to West Des Moines at Uncle Bucks Party Bar. “Out of respect to the business owners and those involved in the events, we thought it would be best to leave the area clear and move the show ten minutes west,” stated MCC co-owner, John Halverson. He added, “We still have all the great fights lined up, and Uncles Bucks has agreed to the same drink specials for our fans.”

MCC Trials II will feature twenty of the most skilled up and coming amateur fighters as they look to compete for a few precious spots at MCC 22 “Reality Check” scheduled September 5th at Veterans Auditorium. Some of the fighters on Friday’s card are Nate “Teddy Bear” Williams, Josh Troen, Nick Rouse, Laramie Shaffer, Mike Miller, Zak Laird and many more. Tickets are just $5.00 (21 and older) and $10.00 (18-20) and are available the night of the show at Uncle Bucks. The doors open at 7:00pm and the fights will start promptly at 8:00pm.
