MCC 35 Re Cap- Roberts and Glenn go the distance, Lund dominates Poling

The night started out with a bang; technically four of them as the first four of five bouts ending by knockout! Usually such highlight reel performance are witnessed in the latter part of the card, however several fighters, some new to the promotion, were intent on proving their worthiness.

Ryan Fitzgerald vs. RJ Harris

The first bout of the evening pitted two former DMX fighters; MCC retired sister promotion, against one another. RJ Harris and Ryan Fitzgerald opened the show with a feverish pace going at each other from the moment the referee said fight! The first exchange saw Fitzgerald tag Harris with a crisp right that sent the more experienced brawler wobbling, however, when Fitzgerald failed to capitalize on his wounded foe, Harris was able to regain compose and piece together a series of well placed shots to the done of Fitzgerald.

As Fitzgerald tried desperately to avoid the direct hits, it was blood in the water to RJ Harris who continued his assault until Fitzgerald crumbled helplessly on the mat. Unable to defend himself, the referee called a halt to the bout at just 47 seconds of the opening frame.

RJ Harris opens the next chapter in his career as an undefeated MCC fighter with a first round knock out under his belt.

Donte Harris vs. Johnny Wentland

Next up, Johnny “Bananas” Wentland made his third trip into the MCC cage as he welcomed Donte Harris to mixed martial arts. Harris,
a well defined athlete made his MMA debut, and although Wentland was the superior fighter on paper, Harris quickly made the statement
that despite his experience, he was here to play and here to win.

When the fight started Wentland looked to stick and move. Following a brief exchange and tie up, the action hit the mat. It was there that
Harris was able to unload a barrage of jackhammers to the head and body of Wentland. “Bananas” scrambled relentlessly to avoid any
significant damage, but just like the prior bout, once the shark had a taste of blood there was no stopping him.

Donte Harris continued to brutalize the senior fighter until the referee had no choice but to intervene. Harris moves to 1-0 as Wentland heads
back to the drawing board.

Sean Frank vs. Chris Fannon

Bout number three saw two more fighters making their MCC debuts. Sean Frank, a Fort Dodge-based fighter who sported an impressive 4-1 record faced Henry’s Martial Arts trained Chris Fannon.

Since both fighters were known for their willingness to stand in the pocket and trade, the fight was bound to be exciting. Of course, this is mixed martial arts which means their are so many ways to win and so many ways to lose. One mistake and, bam! You’re done…

And Sean Frank proved that.

As the bout opened and the fighters touched gloves, each of them looked to quickly land the money shot. It took one exchange for Frank to make a rookie mistake; don’t forget to bring your hands back to your chin.

That one mistake was all it took for Chris Fannon to land the punch to the chin of Frank which sent him into la-la land. In one of the fastest knock outs in MCC history, Chris Fannon was victorious in just eleven seconds.

An elated Fannon credited all of his hard training in camp and stated that he was eager to get back in as soon as possible. After brining the crowd to their feet I think the fans would like to see him back as soon as possible too.

Mike Owens vs. Nate Hausen

Hasuen made his mixed martial arts debut eleven months ago at MCC Trials. There, he was able to submit his opponent in impressive fashion. He quickly followed that performance us with a knock out win one month later. In his next bout he was stopped in the third round and that prompted a break in action to reflect on his training and hone his skills.

He returned to face Mike Owens. A near mirror image of Hausen, Owens possesses heavy hands, loves to slug it out, but is also willing to go to the mat and grapple. Owens came to MCC with a perfect 2-0 record.

Most of the first round was spent feeling the other one out pawing with jabs and an occasional cross paired with a hard leg kick from time to time. You could, however, tell that each punch was thrown with bad intentions.

Near the end of the first round Hausen, the busier of the two fighters found his range and delivered a combination that looked to be a potential fight-stopper. Owens shook his head as the make the statement that he was un phased. At that point Nate Hausen hit the nitrous button and delivered yet another powerful shot, this time, however, there was no coming back. Owens fell to the ground, but still somewhat coherent. Before Owens hit the floor Nate Hausen knew he was the winner, however the referee still had hope for Owens. Hansen followed up with two shots on the ground that turned off the remaining lights in Owens house.

In what was probably Hausen’s most impressive career performance he deferred on taking credit, rather commending his teammates, specifically Miguel Rios, Jr. for all of their hard work in preparing him. The humble fighter is quickly becoming one of the most popular fighters on the MCC roster.

Frankie Osborn vs. Henry Meza

If back and forth action is what you came to see- look no further than this fight! The fast-rising bantamweight division is known for fighters going at it a hundred miles an hour from start to finish. This bout showcased what the division is all about.

For most of the opening from the two fighters exchanged punches and kicks, takedowns, scrambles, knees and clinch work. At the end of the round neither fighter looked to have lost any steam.

The second round opened at the same pace until a mis-timed takedown attempt put Meza in a vulnerable position to accept an array of strikes from Osborn as he exchanged fro back mount to side mount. By the end of the second, Osborn was starting to pull away on the judges scorecards.

When the third round began Osborn seemed the fresher of the two as he went to work to get back to the dominant position that won the second round for him. When the fight made it’s way back the standing position Meza was clearly going for broke, but it was Osborn, who stayed composed enough to deliver the knock out punch to seal the deal.

The fight, which was clearly a top candidate for fight of the night netted Meza the prestigious Heart of a Warrior award, while Osborn was presented with the Anglo Diamond/Polanti “Heavy Hitter” accolade and a brand new Polanti watch to show for his efforts.

Meza stated that he was dropping down in weight class to compete at 125 lbs. Osborn, who looks dominant in the bantamweight division is definitely someone to keep your eyes on.

Tanner McClure vs. Isaac Adamson

The undefeated Adamson, another fighter from the Henry’s Martial Arts camp is another one of the quickly rising stars in MCC’s featherweight division. Known as one of the hardest working fighters in the gym, Adamson set out to make quick work of the MCC newbie; Tanner McClure.

The bout took just moments before it went to the ground. It was there that Adamson moved effortlessly as he passed McClure’s guard and had his opponent reeling from punches. Adamson was able to open up a cut on the outmatched fighter, but is was after several unanswered shots that the referee was forced to intervene.

Adamson, who is currently campaigning for a spot at AKA, the Fresno, California based MMA gym that houses UFC Heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez and perennial welterweight contenders MIke Swick, Josh Koscheck and John Fitch, keeps his perfect record in tact, while McClure falls to 2-2.

Tom Ahrens vs. Josh Henry

Following a trio of unsuccessful win attempts, former MCC featherweight champion Josh “Bam Bam” Henry did not settle for a lesser opponent when he made his return to the cage. Instead he agreed to face the gritty, in your face scrapper, Tom “To the Top” Ahrens. Henry wrote on his Facebook account prior to the fight that he was excited to let his hands go in this fight. Henry, who has a Tae Kwon Do pedigree has found most of his success by taking his opponents to the ground and pounding them into submission.

Once the bout got underway the two exchanged a series of punches, kicks and knees, but it was Henry who initiated the ground game. From the bottom Ahrens attempted a few different submission, but Henry was able to power out every time.

Ahrens hung tough throughout the first and second round.

However, once Henry was able to work himself into a dominant position, securing the back of Ahrens, he was able to sink in the choke forcing the tap. Clearly frustrated, Ahrens, being the good sport raised his opponents arm in victory. Henry, after thanking his camp and fight fans, campaigned for a match up with UFC vet Ryan Roberts who was slated to fight in the co-main event later in the night.

Laramie Shaffer vs. Will Shutt

Since the bantamweight belt has been recently vacated, this fight was essentially to crown the king of the division, but with little time to prepare for a five round title fight, this bout was officially scheduled for three- five minute rounds to decide the number one contender.

The bout did not disappoint.

Shaffer and Shutt have both had their fair share of ups and downs in the cage, so both fighters put in extra work throughout this training camp.

Again, they did not disappoint.

Neither fighter ever looked better. Shaffer, the better wrestler was able to control the action on the ground, but for once, he did not rely sole on his grappling abilities as he welcomed the stand up exchange. Shutt, who has proven he has devastating power in both hands and legs alike was comfortable on his back! Mixed martial arts, anyone?

The fight, going into the third was dangerously close. Both fighters went for broke. Shutt tried to take Shaffers head off with punches, and when the fight went to the ground, Shaffer tried to rip Shutt’s head off with a choke.

In the end the judges saw the bout as a draw. The crowd saw an amazing display of skills from both and MCC officials saw enough to warrant a rematch later this year- this time, it will officially be for the title. Stay tuned!

Van Meer vs. Green

The next bout pitted two former middleweight champions against each other. Mike Van Meer, the uber-experienced former champ asked for a rematch against the man who stole his belt from him three years ago; Brian “Smokin” Green.

With both fighters coming off losses in their last MCC appearances, it was a must win situation for both.

Looking at their records, each on of these guys have fought the who’s who in the sport. If you look at every Midwestern fighter in the welterweight or middleweight division that has made their way to the UFC or Strikeforce, you can rest assured that one of these guys have fought them. With well over one hundred fights between the two of them, this bout was truly a display of MMA past and present.

Green, who is a college student and gym owner wanted to put on a new display of skills for fight fans and students alike. Attempting to erase the slam-knockout from the memories of anyone who saw that bout, Green said that he wanted to put on a performance that conveyed he still had it and he’d be champ again someday. He stated that he wanted, more than anything, to get a knock out of his own.

Van Meer, the more reserved of the two did not make any predictions other than saying he has become a different fighters over the past three years.

And the fight was great!

Green gave his best effort to throw everything and the kitchen sink, including a jump kick off the fence ala former WEC champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Van Meer fared well on his feet, but found most of his success taking Green to the mat almost at will.

Judges had Van Meer up on the scorecards two rounds to none going into the third and final round. When Van Meer got Green to the ground it appeared as if “Mini Van” may have rolled his way to a decision victory. Green however, is never one to be counted out. As Van Meer got lazy and left an arm dangling, Green transitioned from kimura to arm bar. As Van Meer attempted to power out of the submission attempt, Green was able to arch his back and secure the lock. Van Meer was forced to tap or have his arm snapped.

Following the victory commencement, Mike Van Meer addressed the crowd to thank his fans and MCC for all of the fights and memories throughout the years before he announced taking time away from the sport to get his weight in tact, possibly retiring.

Ryan Roberts vs. Rick Glenn

In the co-main event of the evening, UFC veteran Ryan “Are You Ready” Roberts challenged the current MCC featherweight champion, Rick ” The Gladiator” Glenn for his belt. Glenn, who owns a pair of wins over Josh Henry as well as wins over Joe Morris and MCC lightweight champ Johnny “Hollywood” Case has been virtually unstoppable over the last two years. Roberts who has been racking up several wins since his lone UFC appearance, was looking for the win to put him over the top and back on the radar of a national event.

The bout was scheduled for five- five minute rounds, and although it went the distance, the fight, from start to finish can be summed up in one sentence: Roberts punched and circled while Glenn stalked and punched.

Round one looked like round four. Round three looked like rounds two and five. There was, however, one takedown initiated by Roberts, and Glenn was able to open up a pretty nasty cut above the right eye of Roberts.

Other than that, the bout was pretty even! And that’s where problems arise….

Whether you’re watching a regional show or the superbowl of mixed martial arts; the UFC, the issue remains the same. If you leave the fight up to the judges to decide you are spinning the dice. You never know what they score more; damage, control, takedowns, striking, etc. It’s a problem throughout the sport.

In the end the bout was ruled a draw. Glenn retains the belt and is still the MCC featherweight champion.

It was a bittersweet ending to a fast paced, well displayed skills fight.

Poling vs. Lund

The main event of the evening put MCC light heavyweight champion, Jesse Lund, in front of his first opponent since winning the title four months ago. Eric Poling, a 12-6 fighter from Illinois made his MCC debut in an attempt to dethrone the champion.

It was not likely to happen according to pre-fight banter from the champ. Lund called it as he saw it.

“Poling is okay at best. I’ve watched a couple of his fights, but he is cocky and does not have the skills to back up his talk. If he thinks he’s going to come into my house and take my belt away he’s got another thing coming. When he steps in the cage he’s going to get beat up quick.”

Being a man of his word, Lund’s game plan was simple; make him miss, make him pay, and if given the opportunity, punish him until he quits.

And, that’s pretty much what happened.

Poling looked to land strikes, using his reach advantage, but Lund was able to close the distance following a brief exchange. Once inside, Lund literally rag-dolled is opponent to the ground and unleashed one of the most brutal elbow assaults in MMA history. He would have given Tito Ortiz a run back when Tito was the king of elbows!

After splitting Poling’s dome open like a melon the referee had watched enough and graciously saved Poling from any additional damage.

Following the bout Poling stated, “This was probably the worst ass whipping I’ve ever gotten. It kind of makes a guy wonder if he’s got what it takes to belong in this sport. I’m going to take some time to reflect, but this is probably the last time I will step back in the cage. This fight kind of knocked some reality into me.”

Lund improves his record to 11-3 and marks his fifth consecutive win. As promised, the belt goes home to Greenfield, Iowa.

With another great night of fights in the books, the next event has already been announced. Nutrishop presents, MCC 36: “Back in Action”. Set for Friday, September 23 at Hy Vee Hall tickets for the event will be available within the next two weeks. The evening will feather a main event with former champ and two-time UFC veteran Joe “The Southside Strangler” Brammer as well as popular fighters Ronnie “Warfrog” Britt, Josh “Bull” Christensen and fast rising star, Luis Saldana. Not necessarily because you lost, because that’s just the spot, but because we’ve watch you win and lose, but we all know how much damage you can endure. This last fight was some what of a different story. For those that were not in attendance, you were slammed and subsequently knocked out from the impact. Give us your thoughts on that and how you feel about that loss/performance and what you’ve learned from it.

BG: Well, I have a billion of mixed feelings about being knocked out off a slam. I should have hooked under his leg with my arm to stop him from getting me up in the air. At the same time though, I had had surgery on my shoulder and I figured I would just eat the slam, cinching in the triangle all the way instead of risking a strong wrestler vs a surgically repaired shoulder getting injured again. I read in some interview that he explained that he had his forearm land on my chin on impact and that’s what put me out. I haven’t seen the fight, except from a view from a distance from the cage, nor do I want to. Congrats to Calley! He knocked me out off of a ‘flip of the coin slam’ that should have, could have, would have, (but didn’t) finish the choke for me. New thing to learn off of it for me: let go of the triangle and attack a sweep, from top If you choose to slam out of a triangle, put your forearm in their jaw line. With that being said, I would absolutely love to have a chance to redeem myself, and show exactly how that fight should have went.

MCC: Despite the loss, you got right back after it. From what we understand you racked up an impressive win over a former champion in a smaller show, but you did not get paid for your efforts. What’s up with that?

BG: Yeah, that definitely was an unfortunate situation. I filled in on a last minute replacement (going up a weight class @ 205) against a legit opponent MCC fans may remember: Demetrius Richards (Who submitted current MCC Light-Heavyweight champion Jesse Lund at MCC 23: Thanksgiving Throwdown). Demetrius was a guy that had fight for me before on a show I was matchmaking for, and him and I had also fought together on a Bellator card last Summer Well, I thought I would match up well against him. He was a bigger, stronger wrestler which is stylistically who I seem to match up against best., When we’re on our feet I usually do better, and on the ground I’m all right as well, which seemed to be true in that fight as I finished with a counter to his kimura by hitting a far side, step over arm bar.

However, even though I won I still have not been paid. That put me in a very bad position financially as I rented a car to drive up to Western Iowa from my current home in Springfield, Missouri. After the promoter didn’t do well with his horribly planned event on Memorial day weekend and the same night as the UFC, as you can imagine he lost money on the event. I even negotiated with the guy, I didn’t make him pay for my rental car as we originally had agreed on because I knew he didn’t do well, and I got a decent win bonus, so just to try to help him out. It has almost been two months and I still haven’t got paid. Apparently he’s filing bankruptcy and the government is going to eventually honor my check. I sure hope so. I ended up being forced to sell my car to make rent and just was put in a bad situation all around off of it.

Unfortunately that happened, but it’s okay, I made it through it, and now I drive a Honda that gets almost three times the gas mileage, so it worked out. God still has my back. Even when you get knocked out in front of your grandparents, parents, and several hundred other friends and supporters, God is still good.

MCC: Oddly enough, you and your next opponent, Mike Van Meer were on that same card. Let’s talk about Van Meer. You’ve faced him one- beat him, and won the MCC Middleweight championship. Since you have already faced your opponent once, do you feel this fight will be a repeat or do you think you’ve both advanced as martial artists and the fight may go in a totally different direction.

BG: It has been quite a while since ol’ Mini Van and I fought. It was a fun grudge match leading up to the fight, but as I said that night after the arm bar, it was all just to build up the fight, and I made my statement. It was all left in the cage. It was a very fun fight, and I look forward to it again. Hopefully it is a fun one, as I’ve always said, it’s a blast to have fun fights. I know we have both advanced in our own ways since then, and I haven’t seen Mike fight for a while though. I have always been fighting after him the last two fights, but I’m just going to go out there and trade, and be ready for the fight to go wherever it goes. We’re both mixed martial artists. We can fight anywhere the fight takes place and make it exciting. .

MCC: Like I had mentioned, you’re both former middleweight champions. With a win at MCC 35, where do you think this puts you in the division? As busy as you are, have you thought about your career in the future?

BG: That’s a good question, and one that I haven’t put a whole lot of thought into as far as my career as a fighter goes. Your ‘re right, I have been very busy with getting my gym up and running, and signing my guys with fights and getting them ready for those, as well as I have promoted a successful event here in Springfield in May, and am in the works of promoting a second event down here as well.

However, I would like to be a champion again, I am currently scheduled for a title fight August 27th here in Branson, Missouri, so with a win over Mikey, and a new Middleweight Championship Title here in Missouri, to accompany the victory over two-time Bellator Fighter, Demetrius Richards, That would put me at a three-fight win streak, with one being a championship title. A three fight win streak revives anyone’s career. Let alone a new championship. I am always looking forward to travel the world. The guy that took me for my MCC title that got called to the UFC the week after he beat me, actually just contacted me about a fight in Russia. I would have jumped all over the opportunity to go see Russia, and get paid to compete in the worlds greatest sport, however I am already fighting back in my hometown looking to have a good performance after a fluke ending to my last one in front of my home crowd in April. Which to this day still eats at me.

MCC: Without giving away the game plan, how do see the fight against Van Meer going down?

BG: I plan on coming out looking crisp, perfect technique catching him with a good counter or a well setup and committed to combination. It’s just when it comes down to it, it’s hard to pull the trigger putting yourself in range for them to hit you, because if you commit, they counter, and you’re open for a counter when they throw, it leaves you sleeping on the canvas, fights over, you got a loss, and now maybe it’s time to reconsider your career as a professional mixed martial artist.

So you not only own the gym, you’re also the head instructor. Wow, college, gym owner, fight promoter, fighter and teacher! That’s impressive, Brian.

I love it! It keeps me busy and I get to share my knowledge. I teach perfect technique in my own gym, and in my own fights I have to come out looking legit with what I’ve been teaching my guys. Especially after getting knocked out in the first round in my last fight, which was my first fight after opening my gym. I have however, found a new love with coaching, and witnessing my guys getting better. I have two guys competing down here in Springfield this coming Saturday, against two fighters out of Springfield Fight Club, the most established, recognized, and legit MMA gym in the Southern Missouri area. I am confident we should go 2-0 this Saturday! Followed by another victory August 5th over Minivan. We will see how it all plays out. It’s mixed martial arts! You could get knocked out with a slam you’d never think would be possible of happening to you!

MCC: Talk about what you’ve been doing to prepare for this fight. With your busy lifestyle is it hard to get focused for your own fight, or since you own your own gym and have students ready and willing to put in the work, do you find that easier?

BG: I am doing all of my training at my gym in Springfield, Mo. We have been getting more members coming in, consistently, which I have turned into training partners to work on all different positions getting guys ready for their fights. I have created monsters in my training partners that are cutting angles, and counter punching better than I do, because it is how I taught it to them in the first place. I learned how to do things the wrong way when I started, and now these guys that are starting brand new are learning advanced techniques that have taken me eight years to finally get down correctly. Teaching my guys, has made me tighten up my technique as well, so I hope to work on some things in the fight in many different positions. Mini will probably try, and succeed at taking me down. He is a hard to stop, low center of gravity having individual that when he commits to something especially against someone that doesn’t have the best takedown defense like myself, it turns into a ground and pound versus jiu jitsu part of an MMA fight. That is if it makes it to the ground. I’ve just been preparing on how to land fight ending shots. We will see if I can land them live August 5th. Last time it was an exciting fight, I’m sure that we will get into a good scrap again!

MCC: Brian, thank you for your time. We are excited to see you compete at MCC 35, and I know you fans are as well. Any last words?

BG: Oh yeah, you may want to add that I wouldn’t mind going up in weight to fight for the title too, The current MCC light heavyweight champion, Jesse Lund is a super cool guy, but I think I have a decent shot at beating him, and that would be alright to have a title at 205lb. as well. We know each other through the sport, and there is nothing wrong with competing. I think that would be a good match up for the MCC fans to be entertained with. Who knows, I have to get past getting knocked out in the first round before I need to think of any title shots.

The Midwest’s Top promotion has scheduled its next event for Friday, August 5 at Hy Vee Hall for MCC 35: “Brawl at the Hall.”

The main event will feature light heavyweight title holder, Jesse Lund, as he faces Eric Poling in a championship bout scheduled for five rounds. This marks the first title defense for Lund since winning his belt at MCC 33 when he defeated UFC veteran, Tyrone Roberts in the first round.

Also on tap is another title bout between featherweight champion, Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn and UFC Ryan “Are you Ready” Roberts.

This will be Glenn’s second title defense after a pair of wins over former champ, Josh “Bam Bam” Henry.

Roberts, the former UFC competitor is riding a multi-fight win streak and will look for a win over Glenn to put him back on the radar of the big show.

Two former middleweight champions collide in a non-title rematch. Brian Green has agreed to face Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer. Green defeated Van Meer to capture the title before losing to UFC bound Joe “The Doctor” Vedepo.

Green and Van Meer recently competed losing bouts to Calley Kruger and Ben Crowder respectively. Both former champs look to get back in the win column as they look to move back up the middleweight ladder.

Speaking of former title holders, Will Shutt has agreed to face Laramie Shaffer in a bantamweight bout, and Josh “Bam Bam” Henry will go toe to toe with Tom Ahrens in a battle of featherweight contenders.

More bouts will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Tickets for MCC 35 are available on-line at www.MidwestCageChampionship.com, by phone at 515-564-8000, Wells Fargo Arena Box office and at all Dahl’s Food Store ticket outlets.
MCC 33: Two new champions crowned, three former champions defeated!

If you were a betting man, on mixed martial arts anyway, chances are you would have lost the farm last night at MCC 33: “Lund vs. Roberts.” Normally, when odds maker rate fights, nine out of ten times a fighter who once held a championship title are highly regarded and they become the odds on favorite to win.

Ben Crowder, Calley Kruger and Billl Kamery heard that message loud and clear. They weren’t buying into it though.

It took less than two minutes in the opening frame for Ben “Quicksand” Crowder to dismantle the former MCC Middleweight Champion, Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer with a barrage of knees and perfectly timed punches. From the beginning of the fight Van Meer looked like a different fighter; refocused and a lot more energized as he used in and out footwork and angles to attemt to get on the inside of the hard hitting brawler’s right hand. Crowder, on the other hand, patiently stalked his prey and waited for the right time to attack. And like a lion going after a gazelle it looked pretty much just like that. It was fast, fuirous and devastating.

Immediately following their bout, Crowder reposefully asked for a match against another former champion, Victor “Superman” Moreno. This potential barn burner has been brewing for the past couple years. Look for these two to meet inside the MCC cage in an upcoming event to be announced.

Speaking of former champions, Brian “Smokin” Green made his long awaited return back into the cage following two shoulder surgeries, one year of college, and the upstart of a new MMA gym in Springfield, Missouri. The popular middleweight faced MCC newcomer, Calley Kruger in a scheduled three round bout.

Green, hoping to use both of his newly rehabbed arms was excited to keep the bout standing, but Kruger had other plans quickly taking Green to the canvas. Running off instinct, Green, who is well known for his submissions went to work attempting to lock up a triangle choke. As it appeared to be getting tight, Kruger picked Green up and slammed him to the mat…twice! The first one only appeared to help cinch in the choke, however the second slam was all it took to put the former champ out. Kruger followed up with a couple shots to the chin for good measure.

Just like that, it was over. Heartbroken, obviously, Green is already talking about an early Summer return back to the cage alongside some of the new prospects from his camp. Tough break, champ!

Will Shutt, the former MCC Featherweight Champion, recently announced his drop to the popular bantamweight division in an effort to rally for a fight against title holder, Zak “The Maniac” Laird. First though, he had to get by former contender, Bill Kamery; a fighter who seemed to be cursed by the Midwest’s most popular promotion. Both of his losses have come at the hands of MCC fighters Josh “Bam Bam” Henry and Zak “The Maniac” Laird.

Shutt looked to be in fantastic shape as he made the 135 lb. weight class limit without any problems. Holding titles in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions he looked well on his way to quite possibly collecting another belt down the road.

Again, his opponent had other plans!

A former Golden Gloves champion, Kamery packs a lot of power into his punches and he knows how to throw them. Without the boxing credentials, the same could be said for Will Shutt. With that said, the crowd thought we might get to see a few minutes of professional rock ‘em sock ‘em robots in the center of the ring.

With his right hand cocked back and ready for action, Kamery waited for Shutt to close the distance, and on a mis-timed shot, Kamery hopped on Shutt’s back like a spider monkey and choked the former champion until he tapped out.

With a smile on his face, Kamery said that there is only one fight that he can think of the makes sense; a rematch with his former teammate and MCC Bantamweight Champion, Zak Laird.

In the co-main event, weeks and weeks of hype and trash talk came to a head once Lonnie Scriven and Johnny “Hollywood” Case stepped inside the cage.

While Scriven campaigned for a twenty five minute war in which he would exit bloody, hurting, but victorious didn’t get his wish. Case had no intentions of turning their fight into a battle- he just wanted to knock Scriven out.

And that he did!

It only took one exchange before “Hollywood” scored yet another highlight knock out sending Scriven flat on his back in just eighteen seconds. The crowd went nuts as Case let out a smile of relief.

But that’s not all! Case, who lost a controversial match for featherweight champ, Rick “Gladiator” Glenn before the champ dropped weight classes, immediately asked for the fight and agreed to put his brand new belt on the line in doing so! Glenn, who was in attendance supporting the teammate that Case just put to sleep, stepped in the cage, and said he would gladly give him a rematch.

Things are definitely getting exciting around here!

The night concluded with another title bout, this one for the vacant MCC Light Heavyweight Championship title.

Former UFC veteran, Tyrone Roberts, riding a six fight win streak stepped in to face on the toughest in the Midwest; Jesse Lund. As we’ve said time and time again, if you have never had the chance to watch Jesse Lund fight you’re missing out. This warrior exemplifies was mixed martial arts is all about; heart, skill, and perseverance. With that said, his game plan is usually the same; go in, get his ass kicked for five minutes, get bloodied up, and then realize the fight started and it’s time to kick this guys ass!

No, really!

Well, the game plan changed this time. Lund was in full on beast mode and right off the bat he peppered the veteran fight with leg kicks. For the folks at home who have (fortunately) not experienced a leg kick from Jesse Lund, you can re-create it- just grab a Louisville Slugger aluminum bat and have the person next to you wind up and whack you in the thigh as hard as they can- twice. There….that hurts, doesn’t it?

All right, back to the fight.

Roberts looked to close the distance by putting Lund against the cage, but Lund was ready as he delivered knees to the midsection of Roberts before pushing off and circling out and away. This exchange took place a few times before another knee sent Tyrone Roberts crumbling to the mat in agony with what appeared to be a knee to the groin.

After watching the replay several times it looked more like the lower abdomen was the target. Nonetheless, Roberts did not even take his full five minute recovery time before waiving off the bout and telling referee Thomas Mastin that he did not want to continue.

This was not necessarily the way Lund wanted to win but a tap out, verbal or physical, is still a win in my book.

Jesse Lund is the new MCC Light Heavyweight champion!

Other highlights of the night included another win from “The Warfrog” Ronnie Britt, who submitted his opponent with a north south choke after taking a nasty punch which gashed his face open. Also, Johnny “Bananas” Wentland got a little revenge from an opponent that beat him a couple years ago, Jordan “Boobie” Webb. Brian Sykes scored a TKO victory over Bryan Alden with ten brutal jackhammers to the dome, while Chad Vandermark advanced his win streak submitting Justin Meador in the second round by standing guillotine choek. Joe Morris proved that he was back and ready to move up the ladder as he welcomed Chris “The Religion” Perez-Van Dam back to the cage with a quick but brutal beating. Finally, Brach Amos, an MCC newcomer who litterally took his fight on two hour notice submitted Tyler Easter in the fight of the night.

What a great night of action! The house was jam packed and Mindrite was rocking the crowd with live music. If you missed MCC 33 live, make sure to check out the replay on Medicom Channel 22.

MCC brass is already underway working on the next event, so fight fans can stay up to date by logging onto www.MidwestCageChampionship.com for more information.

Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer vs. Ben Crowder

Expect excitement! Although I would not call these two enemies, both have verbally agreed to go to war for fifteen minutes- or two, or three minutes, however long the fight lasts! With Van Meer close to weight a few days out that is a clear sign that he has been training hard. The last time that Van Meer made 185 lbs. this easily he captured the MCC Middleweight belt.

Of course, a big right hand from Crowder can turn the lights out of anyone standing in front of him, and as we all know- it only takes one!

VanMeer Strengths- Experience, wrestling, has faced very tough competition

Crowder Strengths- Explosive power, good takedown defense, boxing experience

Brian “Smokin’” Green vs. Calley Kruger

After two surgeries and a couple of years, BG is back! This will be his first fight where he will actually be able to use both hands, so it’s hard to say what kind of game plan he will employ? Will he stand (since he is able to) or will he go to his bread and butter; the ground game? I’m excited to see.

With Kruger, he is in a good spot. He’s a relative unknown to the MCC fans, but he’s already proven that he can take on a great striker (Ben Crowder) and come up with a win by submission. I think we may see a few surprises from Calley Kruger. After all, he doesn’t have to bear the burden of proving himself- that’s all on Green’s shoulders. Kruger can relax and enjoy the fight.

Wait… Does anyone other than fight fans enjoy the fight???

Green Strengths- Crafty on the ground, durable, healthy and injury free

Kruger Strengths- Submissions, athleticism

Ronnie “Warfrog” Britt vs. Jon Kennedy

What can we say about Ronnie Britt that hasn’t already been said before? He’s shown that his submission game, specifically the guillotine is not something to be taken lightly, but just when you think that old man can’t hand with these young bucks, BOOM… He becomes a stand and bang type of fighter (finishing with the guillotine, of course).

I would say that Ronnie is a couple fights away from his official- official retirement, so at this point he is just out to have fun in the sport he loves. Look for the “Warfrog” to mix it up, both on the feet and on the ground.

Jon Kennedy is making his MCC debut. But he has experience. In fact, he holds a middleweight title from another Midwestern show, and he trains with Pride and WEC veteran, Joe Pearson, so if it’s a submission, he’s been there done that already. You’re probably not going to do anything he hasn’t already encountered.

Kennedy could be the dark horse here, but we’ve all learned over the years to never bet against Britt. That old dog always has new tricks!

Britt Strengths: Excellent ground game, great chin, willing to brawl

Kennedy Strengths: Size, grappling experience

Will “The Real Deal” Shutt vs. Bill Kamery

Before I get into this fight I want to go on record here and say that this has potential to be a real barn burner; a definite choice for fight of the night.

All right, first thing is first. This is going to be the former featherweight champions’ first fight at 135 lbs. Will has fought at both 145 and 155 lbs, and he carries a lot of muscle on his frame. I think the first question is obvious; will the weight cut hurt his performance? If not, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it now- Will Shutt can beat any fighter out there on any given night. It just depends which Will Shutt shows up to fight. He has stated his claim that he is after the belt that Zak Laird possesses.

The thing is, he has to get by one tough mother *&^%@# first…

Bill Kamery burst onto the MMA scene racking up win after win. He’s beaten some of the best in the Midwest, including Pride and WEC contender, Joe Pearson.

Then he gets to MCC and is snuffed out. Twice!

I have a feeling that when Bill Kamery steps into the cage this Saturday night he is going in with a different mentality. Honestly, I think he’s going to be in kill mode from bell to bell. Shutt is a fast starter and I don’t think Kamery is going to have a problem with that at all. As a former Golden Gloves champion, Kamery knows how to throw leather and place punches in just the right spot to put you to sleep. With MMA he gets to do that with gloves that are a fraction of the size of boxing gloves. Don’t blink!

Shutt Strengths- Good muay Thai skills, strong, explosive

Kamery Strengths- Boxing experience, excellent cardio, patient

Brian Sykes vs. Bryan Alden

Sykes is making his sophomore appearing with MCC while Alden is making his debut. With years of training experience under Sykes belt will it be enough to get past the countless amateur fights that Alden possesses? Well, that experience combined with the fact that Sykes is one of the biggest light heavyweights I have every seen! Meanwhile, Alden is moving up in weight as most of his experience lies in the middleweight division.

With both of these guys totally comfortable taking the fight to the mat I believe it’s going to come down to execution of the game plan.

Surely, Alden does not want to end up on his back with a big and very powerful guy like Sykes raining down heavy leather at his dome.

On the other hand, Sykes is going to have to keep up with the pace that Alden can set. He’s a scrapper and finds ways to win. I don’t think he will be intimidated by the size difference, and I do think he will come out looking to drop bombs in an effort to set up a takedown.

On Syke’s last outing with Lucas White he went the distance and the judges decided it was a draw. With a five pound weight discrepancy (White failed to make weight) and a possible mix up with the round time, Sykes did not leave with a good taste in his mouth. I think he steps in with something to prove.

Sykes Strengths- Conditioning, jiu jitsu, physically strong

Alden Strengths- Experience, wrestling, good in the scramble

Justin “Tsunami” Meador vs. Chad Vandermark

Okay, here is my number two pick for fight of the night on the undercard. I always like this fights where two guys come out, throw caution to the wind (and game plans) and stand toe to toe and slug each other in the chops until one falls down!

That’s how I see this fight going.

Both of these guys have proven that they can take a punch and give a punch. And we’ve seen them on both sides of the knock out.

I think for both of these guys it’s going to need to be something other than a game of punching Russian Roulette. At some point one of these guys is going to need to follow a game plan that includes taking the other dude to the ground- after all, this is mixed martial arts, not boxing.

Meador Strengths: Heavy hands, good in the clinch, quick striker

Vandermark Strengths: Good cardio, equally as good on the ground as standing

Chris Perez-Van Dam vs. Joe Morris

It’s hard to imagine Chris Perez-Van Dam doing anything without posting about it on Facebook. Maybe his corner guys can let him type a status update in between rounds. Get the iPhone ready boys! All right, I’m just joking…

The break dancer turner fighter, turned DJ and now back to fighter is ready to prove to the fans that MMA is his game and he’s here to make a name for himself, starting with a win over tough as nails, Joe Morris.

For Perez-Van Dam it’s all about establishing dominance right off the bat. He’s been out of the game for a while now, and although he is training with MCC Flyweight Champion, Nate Williams and the other fine folks at New Beginnings MMA, it’s not the same as a true fight experience.

Morris, on the other hand, has been active and despite putting together a stellar win streak over the past few fights, he has a knack for turning any bout into fight of the night. Morris is hard to finish, he’s strong, he likes to bang as well as grapple, but more than anything he’s just one tough son of a bitch!

Perez Strengths: Good striking base, great chin, likes to throw unorthodox strikes

Morris Strengths: Hard nosed, excellent cardio, good submission defense

Tyler Easter vs. Thomas Olofson

Tyler Easter only has two fights in his young career, but if he’s thrown thirty punches between those two fights, then thirty punches have been thrown with the intention to knock the other guys jaw into the cheap seats. Seriously!

If this kid wanted to play baseball he would probably hold home run records- or strike out a lot.

Thomas Olofson is a sneaky fighter though. What he lacks in technique he makes up for in heart. To beat Olofson you are literally going to have to beat him! He prefers to do his dirty work on the ground so I would assume he will wait for Easter to throw a bomb before he ducks under in an attempt to take the younger fighter to the mat. This is where is could get interesting.

Easter has set up camp at Broken Bones Combat Club under the watchful eye of none other than Ronnie “Warfrog” Britt. We will see if his submission defense (or offense for that matter) has caught up to his stand up skills.

Easter Strengths: Power in both hands, athletic, explosive

Olofson Strengths: Advantage on the ground, physically strong, heart

Jordan “Boobie” Webb vs. Johnny “Bananas” Wentland

This is the battle of two former DMX veterans! This is also a battle between two guys with the most interesting nicknames. If you go by “Boobie” or “Bananas” I can only assume you’ve had your share of “unsanctioned” fights! (wink wink)

Here’s how this fight will go down: The ref says go and it looks like two guys on a three-day Red Bull binge in fast forward mode. Fight fans need to pay close attention to this one because these two only have one speed!

Webb combines acrobatics, big slams and chokes into his arsenal, while Wentland just gets busy by blasting you in the face from any angle. This one will be up, down, up again, slam, punch, up, down, up…repeat.

Are you dizzy yet?

Webb Strengths: Athletic, wrestling base, excellent in the scramble

Wentland Strengths: Fast hands, good submission defense, good in the pocket

Ty Blair vs. Eric Kapayou

Here we have a classic match up of striker versus grappler. Ty Blair has a great record, and most of his wins have come from punches whereas Kapayou has an extensive grappling background, compete in tournaments and training with an excellent camp.

These game plans are simple: for Blair- keep it standing, circle, and avoid the clinch. For Kapayou, head movement, close the gap, shoot, wait for a mistake!

Blair favors the right hand, and Kapayou favors the triangle. Let’s see how good I am because I think the one who wins will do so by the above method!

Blair Strengths: Punching power, explosive, good chin

Kapayou Strengths: Patient, grappling, both cage and mat experience

Fighter Focus: Renewed and re-motivated; former champ Van Meer is ready to wear the belt again!

In one week at MCC 33: “Lund vs Roberts”, the former Middleweight Champion, Mike Van Meer will take the climb back up the division’s ladder when he takes on brawling bad boy, Ben Crowder. Looking to climb back up the mountain which is that of the MCC Middleweight division, Van Meer knows that a win is a must, but on the other hand, getting a little retribution for the smack talk he’s been hearing is on his mind as well.

MCC: Mike, let’s get right to the point. Ben Crowder says that when the bell rings, he foresee’s a brief exchange on the feet before you dive for his ankles in an attempt to take him down. What do you have to say about that?

MVM: Whatever… I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. Period! I’m not out to prove I can knock anyone out or just take people down. My goal is to win the fastest way possible, and that’s what I plan to do. If it’s by knockout, so be it. If I choose to take him down and submit him, well, that will be that.

MCC: Now, I know that you guys have trained together for a short time a couple months ago. There isn’t any animosity between you two is there?

MVM: No, not at all. I have no problem with Ben, and I told him when I took this fight that for fifteen minutes or less it’s about business, and that’s exactly what it is to me; business. I don’t have to be mad at someone or talk shit just to get myself hyped up for a fight. I’m way beyond that point in my career.

MCC: Okay, so let’s here how you think the fight is going to go?

MVM: I think Ben will not be able to keep the pace that I’m going to bring, and Ben will gas out. At that point I’ll finish by strikes or submit him depending on what he gives me to work with. It’s pretty simple the way I see it.

MCC: In the past you’ve struggled with your weight, but you appear to be in great shape now. What do you attribute the change to?

MVM: I had to adjust my diet a lot and do more training on my free time outside of the gym and after training in the gym. I will set a good, fast pace for my fight and whoever breaks first will lose. The thing is… I won’t break.

MCC: So, what have you been doing specifically to prepare yourself for this bout with Ben Crowder?

MVM: Well, you know I have just been working on weight and cardio for the most part. I have fought a lot of guys better than Ben so I have the experience. Everything will fall into place. If you look at who I have fought- UFC vets, Pride vets, big show guys. And, a lot of them, I gave a good run for their money. When you take into consideration I have been in there with guys like Charles McCarthy and Rory Markham, why would I be scared to fight Ben Crowder?

MCC: That’s understandable. With over seventy five professional fights, and looking over the impressive list of people you’ve fought, is there anyone out there that you would like to fight next?

MVM: No, not really. I don’t call people out. But, basically I would like to fight anyone who will get me to where i need to be.

MCC: Does that mean back to the belt? You are the former MCC Middleweight Champion. You lost to Brian Green, who is also competing on this upcoming card with you. You attempted another run at the belt, losing to current champ, Elvis “The King” Mutapcic. Do you have any desire to fight either one of them again?

MVM: Yes, I want to be the MCC Middleweight Champion again, and I would not turn down a fight to get that title. I do want to fight Elvis Mutapcic again and not because I hate him but because when we fought the last time I trained a week for the fight. I had a lot of personal problems and lost site of the big picture, but I’m refocused now and training harder than ever. It would be a great five round war and great for the MCC fans.

MCC: So, let’s get back to your fight against Crowder. Let’s see how good you really are. Give us the time and method of which you will win this fight. Go!

MVM: I will either get a referee stoppage or a submission at 3:22 of the second round.

MCC: Good enough. Who would you like to thank for this opportunity?

MVM: I would like to give a big thanks to Kathy and Kevin Crimmins from Permanent Collection Tattoo, Bertini Marble and Tile, Snider Lawn Care,Nurtishop, Jesse Walker at CritterGitters, and J & J Meats in Panora,my family and fans, and of course, MCC for the opportunity to prove myself. I can’t wait for next week. All of my hard work and training will pay off, and people will remember that the champion that I was is the person I will be again in the future.

Ben Crowder has two loaded fists and a ton of East side pride; Plans to prove it to Van Meer and anyone else!

At MCC 33: “Lund vs Roberts”, MCC’s official bad boy, Ben Crowder will face former middleweight champion, Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer. With his sights set on a definitive victory, Crowder might just make a habit out of going after former belt holders! Read on to learn about how he will win in two weeks, and who may be in line to catch the next beating!

MCC: Ben, welcome back to MCC. Your last couple bouts have been short but exciting. You came up with a big win over Pablo Lara, and then you took on Miguel Rios, rocking him early in the round before you were caught with a sub. There’s no doubt that throwing heavy leather is your game. Can we assume that you have the same in store for Mike Van Meer when you two meet on April 9 at MCC 33?

BC: Yeah, me and Mike will be a good fight. I plan to trade with him, but I’m sure he will try and take me down.

MCC: Van Meer is claiming to have been working on his stand up game as well and invites a stand up war. If that’s the case, this could make for fight of the night while it lasts. Thoughts?

BC: He doesn’t want to make it a stand up war. He knows he can’t beat me on the feet so he is just talking smack. He is going to try and take me down, but I’ll be ready. Believe that.

MCC: All right, so let’s fast forward past April 9 just because fight fans want to know this…. Victor Moreno- will you two ever meet inside the cage?

BC: Yeah, me and Vic will fight, I’m sure. We were scheduled to fight twice now and I had to pull out once and he then he decided to retire before the last one. But, now that he is back in action I know someday it will happen for sure.

MCC: What’s the background behind the beef anyway?

BC: I really don’t have a personal problem with him. When I was younger, like sixteen or seventeen, I fought out at Toad Holler, and right after the fight when I didn’t even have my gloves off yet, he came up to me and asked if I wanted to go next week. I was out there with his cousin, Cory Simpson, and he told me that I don’t want to fight him yet and I wasn’t ready. From then on I have wanted to fight him just to see what he really has got. We also have some mutual friends, and they have said that he doesn’t take me seriously, and that he would walk through me. Well, I doubt that, and we will settle it in the cage someday. We will have to see who the better fighter is.

MCC: Talk about training for your upcoming bout. What have you been doing to prepare yourself and where are you training at these days?

BC: I have been training hard running five miles a day and grappling three days a week at Precision Combat Training. I have been working out with the Iowa Lightning football team getting ready for the 2011 football season. So, I have been really working my cardio for this fight I know that Van Meer doesn’t stand a chance on the feet with me, so I am ready for a ground battle and I can go all three rounds if I need to.

MCC: So, walk us though the bout. You and Van Meer enter the MCC cage, the door is locked and the ref says fight. What happens?

BC: Oh, that is simple. The cage closes and then we meet in the middle and bang it out until I rock him, and he will dive at my ankles, and then I will get a stand up from his stalling or submit him. To me, it really doesn’t matter. Either way I will have my hand raised at the end of the fight.

MCC: All right then, simple is right. OK, enough about all of that. Here’s your chance to give thanks to whoever you want to. Go!

BC: I want to thank MCC for having me back, my manager Patrick Kerr and my sponsers: Animal Instinct, Des Moines Bail Bonds and everyone that trained me for this fight, especially those at Precision Combat Training.

MCC: Saturday, April 9 at MCC 33, will we hear any chants of “East Side”? You have some rowdy fans. I assume everyone will be out to cheer you on?
BC: Oh yeah, I’ve got a rowdy crowd but they’re good people, and they will all be there to support me. You bet your ass you’re going to hear “EASTSIDE”!

MCC: Thanks for your time, Ben. Best of luck in training and we will see you in the cage in a couple weeks.

BC: Thank you, and I will see everyone in a couple of weeks. Van Meer- be ready!

MCC Announces Next Event; Adds Two Title Fights

Just one month after MCC 32: “Bad Blood” this Saturday night, the Midwest’s most popular mixed martial arts promotion will hold another stellar card at Hy Vee Hall, this time, filling the championship vacancies in both the light heavyweight and the lightweight divisions. Saturday, April 9 Nutrishop proudly presents, MCC 33: “Lund vs. Roberts. With the talent pool growing in both size and skill couple with the production that only MCC can bring, this event is shaping up to be one of the years greatest.

Since both former MCC lightweight champions; Joe Brammer and TJ O’Brien have been summoned to the super bowl of mixed martial arts; the UFC, the lightweight championship is, once again, up for grabs. Contenders Johnny “Hollywood” Case and Lonnie Scriven will meet on April 9 to decide who the top 155 pound fighter in the Midwest is. Both Case and Scriven are known for their exciting styles, lighting fast hands, and the ability to finish fights in devastating fashion. With both of these fighters destined for stardom, the match up is tailor made for fast paced action, and this will be one bout fight fans will rave about for some time.

In the light heavyweight division, number one contender Jesse Lund returns to face his toughest opponent to date; UFC veteran and Iowa MMA pioneer, Tyrone “The Native Warrior” Roberts in a five round main event attraction. Roberts, one of the first Iowans to step inside the world famous Octagon has publicly stated his intentions to get back into the UFC, and a win over Jesse Lund will put him right where he needs to be. Lund, on the other hand, carries the momentum of a multi-fight win streak and the confidence needed to take out Roberts and advance himself to the next stage in his own career.

And these are just the two main events of the evening!

Des Moines native and former MCC Middleweight Champion, Brian ‘Smokin” Green will once again, step inside the cage to make his long awaited return to his hometown when he takes on up and coming brawler, Calley Kruger in a three round non-title feature event. Green has one of the greatest fan followings in the sport, and without a doubt, will have Hy Vee Hall on their feet when he enters the cage. Will Kruger make a name for himself with a win over a seasoned vet like Green, or will an injury free Green prove that he still has everything it takes to make his mark on the sport? We will find out on April 9!

Former contender takes on former champion! MCC’s first ever Featherweight Champion will drop down one weight class to take on Golden Gloves Champion and former number one contender, Bill Kamery to decide who will face the current Bantamweight Champion, Zak “The Mainiac” Laird in a future event. Shutt has been dominating is opponents with both strikes and submissions, and we already know about the dynamite Kamery packs in his punches. If you’re looking for excitement, look no further. We don’t expect a three round snooze-fest, and when the bell rings- don’t blink! This one will end decisively.

Speaking of champions, former MCC Middleweight Champion, Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer will return to meet hard charging Ben Crowder, and Ronnie “The Warfrog” Britt will look to keep his four fight win streak going when steps up back in the MCC cage.

The action will be intense and the pace will be furious from top to bottom of this card. This is one event you do not want to miss!

Van Meer, Bradley: The Trilogy

All great things come in three, right? Look at Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return of the Jedi. How about The Godfather parts one through three? Oh, what about the Twilight series? Wait….scratch that last one.

Anyway, in less than one week, another great trilogy comes to and end. Mike “Mini Van” Van Meer and “Mean” Dean Bradley have faced each other twice, and each one of them have racked up wins over the other.

The first go ’round, Bradley used judo throws and a relentless offense to defeat the former champion in an action packed, back and forth battle. The next time out, Van Meer trained like a madman in an effort to erase the loss handed to him just months earlier. And, although he scored a unanimous decision victory, the lackluster bout warranted what will become the third and final chapter in their careers against each other- the rubber match.

At MCC 30: “Thanksgiving Throwdown”, each of these light heavyweight powerhouses have an opportunity to, not only one up the other, but also get in a position to make a run at the vacant MCC Light Heavyweight crown, which was recently held by Bellator fighter, Demetrius “D-Mo” Richards.

The always confident, Van Meer, has set up his fight camp alongside training partner, coach, and MCC veteran, Ronnie “Warfrog” Britt at Broken Bones Combat Club, while Bradley has become a member of Des Moines’ newest facility, Premier Combat Training. With both fighters training hard and getting solid coaching, fight fans can expect a more technical, fast paced fight. Since they have logged six rounds or thirty minutes of actual fight time between the two contests, both Van Meer and Bradley has vowed to finish the other to prove who is the more dominant competitor.

Will Van Meer, the veteran fighter, with over fifty professional mixed martial arts bouts prove himself and move up the MCC ladder, or will Bradley silence the critics and show that sometimes, hard work and determination can prevail over experience?

MCC 30: “Thanksgiving Throwdown” takes place next Wednesday at Hy Vee Hall. Tickets for the event are available at www.MidwestCageChampionship.com, by phone at 515-229-8566, at all Dahl’s ticket outlets, or at the door the night of the show. Doors open at 6:30 and the fight fight will start at 7:30. For more information, including the fight card, other news and fighter interviews, check out the web site.
