Des Moines, IA- October 1, 2008- Veteran mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters and seasoned impresarios Ryan Hass and John Halverson will compete in a nationally televised event at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 11. The event, titled “Night of Combat 2″ is a co-production between Superfights MMA, Mark Cubans HD-Net high definition network, and Kim Couture’s KC Concepts promotion company.

Both Hass and Halverson began their MMA careers inside the cage, going on to co-found Midwest Cage Championship (MCC), Des Moines premier MMA promoter. Both men have competed in large scale productions previously, with Halverson going on to the UFC. Night of Combat 2 has created significant buzz based on a strong fight card, the celebrity status of one of its promoters (Kim Couture, top ranked woman fighter and wife of Randy Couture), and the world class venue. The original Night of Combat event held in June at UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center attracted 11,000 attendees.

The event will be broadcast on HD-Net one week following the live event. Night of Combat 2 is one of the new MMA promotions showing up on the televised landscape as several networks, including CBS and NBC, scramble to embrace the nations fastest growing sport.

Vern Jefferson claims to have sustained a significant injury during training and does not meet State medical requirements in order to fight. “While this fight will be missed, fans will enjoy a solid fight card with ten other great fights,” offered MCC matchmaker Ryan Hass. “In the fight game, these things happen, and safety is our main concern”, concluded Hass.

Fans will have an opportunity to see Halverson compete is a large, Las Vages based promotion in October. Halverson, a UFC vet, is no stranger to fighting for Las Vegas crowds and looks forward to fighting in the new, high visibility promotion. Details on that promotion will be announced soon.
