Michael McBride debuts weekly blog leading up to MCC 42
Posted by Admin on Jul 3, 2012 in Articles, Featured, News • No commentsHi, Michael McBride here. Let me tell you a little about my personal life to get things started. I am a Christian first, a family man second, and a fighter third. One of the reasons I fight is because it gives me the opportunity to reach out to many and be a better witness to God. For example, you are reading my blog right now but you wouldn’t be if I had not become a fighter. I am forever grateful of my following of fans, which always gives me that extra determination and motivation sometimes needed. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. I couldn’t do this without you, but my biggest supporters are my family. Most importantly my wife and daughter. My wife Jeana accepts and understands the dedication and commitment it takes to be a fighter with the long training hours daily and the strict diet. She works hard herself operating her families longtime business she now owns at Gilbert Jewelers located in Webster City. Our daughter Shelby is a pretty big fan of my career choice as well. Apparently her friends think it’s pretty cool that I’m a fighter, even though I tell her boys will be too scared to ever date her. She usually just gives me a glare and a little “don’t embarrass me” slug in the arm.
The question that usually comes up is how did you get started in MMA? I started practicing Jiu Jitsu at Des Moines Jiu Jitsu with Kevin Burns, Chris David and the rest of the DMJJ crew about 3 years ago. At first it was just a fun way to workout. Then I started to compete in tournaments, and was doing pretty well. Everyone started to ask why don’t I give MMA a try. And to be honest it was already on my mind. About this time I met Joe Brammer. Joe was just opening up his gym in Waukee at Elite Edge. Brammer started working with me on my boxing. After about a month with Brammer I took my first fight with Brutaal Genesis Iowa. I fought with them a few times and MCC once. During this time I went 6 – 0 and earned the Brutaal Genesis Welterweight title.
It was now time to make a decision on what’s next. Knowing that I am not getting any younger at 26 years old I needed to decide if I was ready to take the pro fight MCC has offered me. I discussed it with my wife and my daughter. We all agreed that it is time to make the move to the professional division. This will be my second fight in the MCC and I am excited. I am not only excited about being in a pro fight but also excited it’s an MCC fight. The MCC is a great promotion and always puts on a good show. I am 32 days out from my fight with Jon Milledge scheduled for Friday, August 3rd. I don’t know a lot about him to be honest. Everyone says he is a really tough kid. I am just going to keep training at DMJJ, Elite Edge and with my boys here in Webster City and hopefully my work will pay off. Thanks again for all the continued support. Check back next week for more of my weekly updates and information.
