After potential turmoil in the flyweight title fight search, Chicago native, Chris “Bad Boy” Haney stepped up and will challenge Nate “Teddy Bear” Williams for his crown on January 27.
Despite the obvious difference in experience, Haney, who got his start in 2010 has already racked up five wins by way of submission, two by KO/TKO with only two bouts going the distance.
Fighting mainly on the local scene in the Chicago area, Haney is looking to get experience against opponents outside his comfort zone.
“I don’t know too much about him,” commented Haney on his opponent. “I do know he has a lot of experience and feels comfortable in the cage. I believe he is a good wrestler, but I’m better. If he wants to stand and bang, good, so do I.”
Haney, who has been wrestling since age six feels that where Nate is strongest, he can not only match his skills, but also one up him on the ground. Of course, with Williams just 5’3″, he will have to get inside the 72″ reach of Haney, who stands almost seven inches taller than Williams.
“I expect a good fight, but think I’ll knock him out or submit him by the third round! This is a great opportunity for me, and I plan on making the best of it”, stated Haney.
Fighting was something that had always felt natural. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Haney grew up with the competitiveness of wrestling. Of course, after he finished high school he had too much time on his hands and soon found himself hanging out with the wrong crowd. Like many others, he cause some trouble and paid the price.
It was at that time he discovered mixed martial arts. It was the perfect intervention since he needed to fill the void in his life he received from wrestling and he wanted to do something positive where he could use his God-given skills to do what he loved; fight.
“What can I say, ” Haney said. “I just enjoy fighting!”
Training full time at Team No-Ego in Oswego, Illinois, Haney prepares each day as if he had a fight tomorrow. He never allows himself to get out of shape in case a last minute opportunity comes up. He wants to be ready. He wants to win.
“Nate Williams is a tough guy, and he is probably going to be my toughest opponent to date. With that said I see myself winning this fight in dominating fashion. My reach, my wrestling, my power… It will all be too much for him. On January 27 I will be the new MCC Flyweight Champion.”
