Cassie Rodish returns at MCC 36
One time MCC fighter “Sassy” Cassie Rodish is one of the biggest advocates for women’s mixed martial arts. After attending an all-women fighter summit earlier this year in Las Vegas, getting to know and train with some of the best ladies in the business, she’s begged for her opportunity to get in the cage and prove herself. Known for being one of the hardest workers in the gym, she has began her training camp for September’s MCC 36: “Back in Action”.
“I will be more than ready to get back in there come September, especially in front of my friends and family,” Rodish said. “Being in there and performing is not just a mark for me but for all of the other girls and everyone who supports WMMA.”
After a couple hard fought battles between Des Moines and New Mexico, Rodish looks to pick up her first professional win against MCC newcomer, Mariah Johnson.
“Sassy” has set up camp at Des Moines’ Precision Combat Training center. She teaches kickboxing, but when it comes to training and sparring it’s usually against guys, most of whom, outweigh her by more than 50 pounds. One might think that she is always at a disadvantage and seldom getting opportunities to learn when you’re always on the defensive, but Rodish welcomes the challenge.
Training partner John Halverson commented, “Cassie is one of the fun people to train with. She moves quick, she will stay in the pocket and she keeps coming. When most people are sitting against the wall at the end of practice, Cassie is always willing to go another round or two. She definitely has potential to make a name for herself in the sport.”
And on September 23 that’s exactly what she plans to do. Not willing to let another fight go to the judges, Rodish plans to take this fight into her own hands and stop her opponent decisively.
“I am so excited. It’s been more than a year since I’ve fought at home so I want the loudest cheering section in the building. Come see how us ladies throw down!”
