Victor Moreno

Here Comes Superman!

By Randy Thomas

In the comic book, Superman is everyone’s hero.  And why not, he’s almost invincible.  That is, until his foe brings Kryptonite to the battle.  This Summer, MCC will play host to a real battle; good guy versus bad guy.  And, if real life imitates this fictitious tale, it will take more than that to stop this Superman!

On June 11 at MCC 27: “Mutapcic vs. Cummings”, former welterweight champion, Victor “Superman” Moreno will make his long awaited return to the cage to settle the grudge with bad boy, Ben Crowder.

“The bad blood has been boiling for the last couple years.  At MCC 26, immediately following Crowder’s TKO victory over Pablo Lara, he wasted no time in calling out Moreno.  Victor was front and center and quickly accepted the challenge.  We will see if Crowder will back up his words with his fists because this is where the ultimate score is settled!”

Moreno, who has scored wins over UFC veteran Steve Berger and Stikeforce alum Bobby Voelker has competed all across the United States throughout his eight-year mixed martial arts career. Now, focused and training with the Des Moines Jiu Jitsu Academy, Moreno has his sights set on not only racking up a victory over Crowder, but also doing it in a fashion that will convincingly dominate the younger fighter and put an end to the smack talk for good.

But, if you ask Ben Crowder, he sees it a different way.

“Moreno has been ducking me for a long time.  He says he will stand and bang with me, but as soon as the bell rings I know he will be diving for my ankles.  If he stands with me, I’m knocking him out, period!  Superman?  He’s not the man of steel, but I have two fists that are going to feel like steel when I hit him!”

MCC 27: “Mutapcic vs. Cummings” takes place Friday, June 11 at Veterans Auditorium.  Tickets are available at www.MidwestCageChampionship.com, by phone at 515-229-8566, Iowa Events Center, and at all Dahl’s ticket outlets.  For more information including fighter interviews, blogs and up to the minute news, check out the web site
