Kevin Burns week 6 blog

Another week is gone as we approach the final stages before game day. Last week was my toughest week during this training camp. I caught the 1st flight out of Omaha Monday morning touching down in Denver before 9am. Left the airport and headed straight to strength and conditioning with Lauren Landow. It was definately the way to start your training day! From there we caught a quick bite to eat and then straight to our final destintion at the Grudge Training center. The pro team practices are all done together as a team which is a pretty sweet enviornment. Their camp is filled with top level fighters from all major promotions around the globe. I was fortunate enough to be training with Nate Marquart, Rashad Evans, Duane Ludwig, Elliott Marshal, Justin Wren, Shane Carwin, Brendon Schwab, and so many more top level fighters. Best thing about their camp is they are truly all there to help their teammates get better on a daily basis. I’m very lucky that all of the guys I train with at Des Moines Jiu-Jitsu also train smart, but its jut a differant crowd in CO. Someday it would be awesome to see a MMA team like this in IA!

Since getting back on Friday night late its been all about catch up. For some reason when you leave for a week all of the things you left don’t disappear! I’m sure most or all of you reading this can relate to that! It was excellent though to be back home sleeping in my own bed and waking up to my wife and daughter!

With the fight so close its definately taken priortiy in everything I do. My weight is excellent which will make the decent on 170 a breese! Really at this point in my training I’m doing all of the last minute technical preparations needed to win on th 13th! Then its all about having some fun!!

WOW.. I really can’t wait to get back in the cage in front of my home town! The energy transferred from all of the fans in the crowd to me is unlike anything else on the planet! Sort of like the energizer bunny commercials were he fuels the alien space ship… Well I’m not an alien, but you hopefully get the point. After the fight I’m excited to announce my after party will be at the Pelican Bar, just down the street from Hy Vee Hall on 3rd and Court. Come out and join me for some celebratory drinks! Not TOO many though. Sunday morning I need to have a clear head for the MMA seminar Joe Brammer and I will be putting on at Des Moines Jiu-Jitsu. I encourage anyone wanting to learn more about the sport of MMA to sign up and come prepared to learn.
