What’s up everyone; for those of you who don’t know, I am now the new MCC Middleweight Champ!!
This is my final blog; in this blog I am going to take you through the day before the fight, weigh-ins, Wednesday’s events, and Wednesday night’s MCC Thanksgiving Throwdown Show.
Tuesday morning I finally got to sleep in. After I woke up I was off to the gym to cut some weight for the fight. I only needed to lose 6 lbs. so it was pretty easy. I did some cardio work outs with a sauna suit on and then hit the sauna to sweat out the remaining weight. When I got home from the gym and I got all my stuff together and my girlfriend and I headed for Des Moines.
On our way to the Twisted Parrot for weigh-ins I got a call from Pete Peterson; to owner of Round Kick. He told me that as expected Mini Van wasn’t going to make weight; he was at 200lbs. at the time. When I got to the Parrot; MCC Staff, Pete and I came to an agreement that Mini Van needed to be at 195lbs. by 10:00AM the day of the fight. Once that was all taken care of it was my turn to weigh-in; as always I was right on the money weighing in at 185lbs. Once all the fighters were finished weighing-in and filling out paperwork it was time for the face-offs; Mini Van was nowhere to be seen. 30 minutes after face-offs were officially over, Mini Van finally showed up. Once Mini Van and I faced off Andy Branson, his girlfriend, Nick Lepa, my girlfriend and I all headed to The Olive Garden to eat, finally. Our poor little 5th wheel Nick was joking all night about being a 5th wheel, and got hit on by our waiter. We all died laughing since it was of course a guy!
Wednesday morning I went up to Round Kick at 10:00AM to see Mini Van weigh in. When he stepped on the scale he was 202lbs. I got on the phone and talked to MCC Staff about Mini Van’s weight; he told Mini Van that he couldn’t be an ounce over 205lbs at 5:00PM that night and his penalty for not making weight was 65% of his purse will be cut.
Wednesday night all the fighters had to be at Vets Auditorium by 5:00PM for the fighters meeting. After the fighters meeting I had A LOT of time to kill before I fought. I walked around for awhile; went up and talked to my family and fans, went down to the tables around the cage and talked to my girlfriend’s family. Then I went back to the locker room and watched Andy, Chad, and Miguel warm up for their fights. After they finished Josh Neer tapped up my hands and helped me warm up for my fight.
Finally it was my time to shine. Walking out to the cage with Josh Neer and Anthony Porcelli following me, hearing my fans cheering me on, I felt untouchable. Once I got in the cage Mini Van made his way out. Then it was finally time to bang it out. The first round was jam packed with many leg kicks and punches from both of us. He tried to take me down many times; but never actually succeeded. Once the first round came to an end I went back to my corner for some instructions from my corner men. Josh told me to continue doing what I was doing, change my level, and throw more fakes. The second around began and I was ready for anything Mini Van would throw at me. 15 seconds into the second round Mini Van fell to the ground; I stopped throwing my punches because I wasn’t sure what was going on. The Ref told me to keep going so I just started throwing punches and before I knew it the fight was over; 31 seconds into the second round.
I want to thank everyone for coming out and showing their support for me.
I have some people that I didn’t get the chance to thank after the fight. First I want to thank Andy Branson and Miguel Rios for helping me train and prepare for this fight and congratulate them both on their wins. I would also like to thank the Twisted Parrot for supporting me; since I didn’t get the chance to thank them at my last fight!
Thanks for everything!
